Prof. Ermias Kebreab
Dr. Ermias Kebreab is Associate Dean for Global Engagement in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Professor and Sesnon Endowed Chair in Sustainable Agriculture at the University of California, Davis. He also serves as Director of the World Food Center, where he leads global efforts to advance sustainable and resilient food systems. Dr. Kebreab is a leading expert in sustainable livestock systems, with research focused on improving feed efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and developing climate-smart agricultural solutions. He has worked extensively across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, collaborating with governments, universities, and development partners to strengthen livestock productivity and sustainability. Through USAID-funded and related international programs, Dr. Kebreab has led the development and deployment of feed formulation tools and decision-support systems aimed at improving livestock productivity, reducing feed costs, and lowering methane emission intensity in smallholder and emerging dairy systems. His work has supported capacity building and training initiatives across multiple countries, helping to scale practical, data-driven solutions for more efficient and sustainable livestock production. Dr. Kebreab has contributed to global scientific and policy efforts, including work with the IPCC and FAO. His research and leadership continue to shape strategies for climate-smart livestock systems worldwide.
